The month of March came and went, my goodness! While my life wasn't exciting enough to post a blog every day, or even every week for that matter, I think there was enough action throughout the whole month that will be enough to post a decent sized blog.
First things first, I freakin' love Boston!! While I am still living in the suburbs and have only ventured into the city less than ten times, there's something about this area, about Boston itself that I find so exciting. There's this ambiance to the city, this culture that's a part of everything here and everyone who lives here. It's weird because growing up I never really heard much about Boston. Granted there was always mention of the history in the area from the late 1700s with the foundation of the country and Revolutionary War history, but that was kind of it. I always heard of the fast-paced and exciting atmosphere of NYC; Chicago always had this cool and sophisticated Mid-Western vibe, and then there were other places like Miami and LA, but nothing much about Boston. And it's interesting because, while I feel Boston kind of keeps to itself, it's probably one of the most welcoming and fun cities I've ever visited. There's this passion that is shared by everyone who lives here, whether it be for the obvious love of baseball's Boston Red Sox, or for a person's own culture and heritage, or even their favorite bar, these people genuinely love living and they love having fun. It's a really cool thing to observe and even more fun to be a part of.
That being said, I went to my first music club a couple nights ago which was so much fun. One of the reasons why I've been wanting to experience the Boston scene is because of the music here. There's such an amazing underground network of musicians and artists. Granted most big cities are similar in that way, but I was attracted to Boston because many of my favorite artists have been discovered here or play regularly in the area. That being said, Lola and I met up with a couple people at this bar/restaurant called Johnny D's. That night, a band by the name of Worlds Collide was playing.
The band was made up of six guys, all in their mid to late twenties and the music they played was a mix of rock, jazz, and funk. The mix might sound a little weird, but the music was so good. It was really laid back and fun, but the coolest part was simply watching the musicians; they were having so much fun by simply playing. I' really enjoy researching artists/bands and being the first to learn about new music, and not that I'm some type of musical expert, I've always prided myself in finding really good and not-so-famous artists. One of my dream jobs would be to scout bands and musicians for record labels (again, it's not like I have any real knowledge in the area, I just think it would be a lot of fun), but while I don't do it professionally, it was fun to have the opportunity to do some research for my own musical collection. It was a good night, probably the highlight of the month. :)
In other news, I decided to go ahead and get a haircut, something really different. I've had the same haircut for several years now, which I've always liked, but I wanted a change. And I kind of figured a new city required a new look. But I'm not gonna lie, it's been a little frustrating lately because I've been mistaken for a teenager several times in the last couple months. Some people I work with thought that I was still in high school and when I asked how old they thought I was, they told me 20 "at the most." Granted, that's only a couple years off, but they seemed to be leaning more toward 16 and 17 years old. Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I want to look crazy old, or even older like late 20s or 30s, I really just want to look my age... is that so wrong? So I decided that the sweet-and-innocent-long-haired-little-girl-look just wasn't cutting it and decided to go with something that was a little funkier (keep in mind, funky for me is mild for most people). I chopped it all off and I think that I still look young, but more mature, but not too much more. What do you think?

The picture is a little silly. I mean, it's not easy taking a picture of yourself - they usually don't look very natural. But I think it'll be ok for this purpose.
So that's kind of the month of March in a very small nutshell. Other things might have happened, but my memory is so bad, or perhaps the events were so minor, that I've forgotten them, at least for the time being.
Update on the job search: still nothing, but tomorrow I am planning on going to a job fair for non-profit organizations in the Boston area, which I'm pretty psyched about. While career fairs have never really been a strong point for me, I'm feeling pretty positive about the whole thing. So wish me luck! And hopefully something will come out of it. :)
